Life's Little Adventures

Well... finals studying has begun (well sort of, still working on finding the motivation). I will be so happy to have my two weeks off in August!

So... last week I was able to get Friday off so that I could go to the beach to be with family. It was amazing! I think I was the happiest I've been in a while.

I left Thursday after class and drove to Corpus. I got there exhausted and ready for some sleep and some serious relaxation. Friday morning my dad and I got up and went for a morning run on the boardwalk at about 6:30am (which is early for vacation for me). It was great to be able to finally get some type of a workout in. Then we ate breakfast and gathered everything to go to the beach! Although I had to study briefly, it was less stressful since I could study by the water in a lounge chair with the sun shining (and a beer in hand if I decided).

It was so great to see my entire family for a few days and spend some time with my grandma for once. There was lots of good food and wonderful company. Two days on the beach were not nearly enough, but I'll take whatever I can get.

I drove back to Houston on Sunday and came home to a soaking wet apartment :(. A pipe had busted in the apartment above me and basically flooded mine as well. (What a wonderful present after vacation.) The ceiling in my bathroom was falling down and there was debris from the ceiling all inside my tub, needless to say the relaxation I had planned for Sunday evening did not happen. I spent my last day of "freedom" cleaning and attempting to get parts of the carpet dry!

Monday night I spent at a hotel because the carpet guys pulled up all the padding and sprayed some type of cleanser on the floor so I couldn't even get to my bed. Tuesday was a little better, and they had everything fixed on Wednesday, but my stuff is still in complete disarray. I'm hoping to get everything back in order this weekend! What a week! At least it was this week and not next week during finals or else I'd be a complete wreck! It has been quite an adventure this week, but I guess it keeps things exciting!

Summer School

So I've been super busy lately with this whole summer school thing. I apologize for the time between posts!

Nothing major to report. I'm surviving PT school. We have had a pretty busy and somewhat stressful summer! We are taking 13 hours in 10 weeks, which turns into 6 different classes to keep track of overall. Yikes!!!

We have been going on clinic visits in small groups for a couple of our classes. That has been really neat. We went to observe wound care (yes physical therapists do wound care on patients in case you were wondering). It was pretty neat! I thought I'd be extremely grossed out, but I actually enjoyed myself, of course I wasn't actually touching the wounds, but it was neat to observe and realize that the pictures they show you and that are in our book actually do happen. It amazed me how quickly a person can develop an extremely large wound!

We also got to practice our interviewing skills in the clinic setting which was great. It is very different to role play with your classmates than it is to actually talk to your patients/clients in the clinical setting.

I have taken a little time to relax, but there is not much of that. Studying at the pool seems to be the best solution, or on the treadmill. I am headed to Galveston with some girlfriends this weekend for a mini day staycation :) and to the beach with my mom's family next weekend! I'm so glad it worked out and that my classmates were willing to switch lab groups and class times with me. I'm glad that we support eachother!

I am also extremely lucky to have such an amazing support system! My family and friends have been amazing! I know they don't always understand the stress and "drama" that I throw at them, but they always talk me through it and support me no matter what! Well... I'll do my best to keep this a little more current, but no promises... the fall is pretty much the same with 10 wks, 14 hours, and then our 6 week clinical rotations (which I can't wait for.)

Well.... I'm going to go shut my brain off for a day or so since we've finally made it through the evil midterms! Then next week it'll be back to prepping for finals already! Man how time flies!
